Teen fighting for life after being crushed by excavator on first day at Sydney worksite

A teenage apprentice who had arrived for his first day on the job, is in a critical condition in hospital after a horrific worksite accident.

The 16-year-old is fighting for life at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital after he was crushed by an excavator at an East Killara worksite at about 1pm.

He suffered extensive injuries to his chest, abdomen, pelvis and legs.

It’s not yet clear how he came to be under the excavator’s tracks, but it’s believed because he was on soft ground it may have prevented him from being killed at the scene.

His father was tracked down in Greenacre and brought to the hospital under police escort.

Forensic officers have visited the scene with Safework set to also investigate.
