'One of us would have died': Perth family narrowly avoids drifting car

A Perth mother is lucky to be alive after a wayward driver swerved into her lane, forcing her onto the wrong side of the road.

Footage captured the moment Ashley Hunter was forced to take evasive action when a Holden Commodore travelling in the opposite direction drifted across the width of the road.

With her two children on board, Ms Hunter said the ordeal left her badly shaken.

“My son was in the front seat and he asked me ‘what’s the time’ so I looked at my watch (and told him),” Ms Hunter told The West Australian.

“Then I’ve looked up and seen a car come in sideways.

“I swerved and then I’ve seen the white car, that was recording it all, and I managed to swerve (around) him as well, which I don’t know how, and I pulled over.

“It’s not just their lives they are risking, it could be kids,” she said. “If we had have hit (another car) there’s no doubt one of us would have died.”

A car trailing the vehicle that drifted into the wrong lane captured the incident on Dashcam video.

Along with the footage, a report was submitted to police, however they were unable to identify the number plate of the swerving driver.

Ms Hunter said she was under the speed limit of 90km/h but believed the Holden was travelling at least that fast.
