A man has suffered chest and stomach wounds after he was gored by a stag in the Royal National Park south of Sydney.

The 57-year-old man was attacked near his home in Otford on Friday afternoon when he spotted a number of stags harassing his tame deer.

He was trying to scare the stags away when one charged at him piercing his chest and abdomen with its antler.

The man was airlifted to St George hospital with a collapsed lung and internal injuries and is in a stable condition following surgery.
