Perth boy Oshin Kiszko loses tough battle with cancer

The little Perth boy whose cancer battle divided the nation has died in his mother’s arms.

Oshin Kiszko lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday morning, three months after his parents decided against chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The six-year-old’s parents say his final days were peacefully spent at home with family.

"My love Oshin took his last breaths peacefully as I lay cuddling him at 2am (Wednesday)," mum Angela said.

"Oshin's journey has been extraordinarily traumatising for him and I am grateful he no longer needs to suffer through this nightmare.

"Thank you to all the beautiful people for their unwavering support and kindness."

During Oshin's final days, Angela took to Facebook to pay tribute to her son.

"I have no words to describe this process of letting go of this beautiful boy,” she posted.

"Oshin has loved me so much, taught me honour, showed me fun, placed his trust in me, showed me very clearly children have [a] voice and deserve respect and so so much more.

"All I can see and feel is Oshin and his deteriorating body... I feel like my heart is breaking."

The Kiszko family say they want Oshin remembered as a happy boy, full of life before the diagnosis that turned his world upside down.

After surgery, Oshin underwent two rounds of chemotherapy but his parents refused radiation and were allowed to take their boy home in September, despite doctors believing there was a remote hope of a cure.

"Oshin has a right to die with dignity and peace," his parents said at the time.

Earlier this month Angela told 7 News her son was at peace but she was struggling to prepare for a funeral instead of Christmas.

On Wednesday morning, Angela farewelled her son and says she will fulfill her promise to sing at Oshin’s funeral.

"Home has been his safe place, so he feels safe here," Oshin’s mother Angela said.

"I think that’s partly why he’s so peaceful here as well."
