Elderly man pulled from burned down home
An elderly man has been pulled from the rubble of his burned-down home in Perth’s east.
The man, aged in his 80s, was almost at the front door of his Greenmount home when the ceiling fell down on top of him.
Trapped in the hallway as his home burned to the ground around him, the elderly man was too weak to call for help as crews battled the blaze.
“In this particular instance, it wasn’t safe for crews to enter and once it was safe, they located the man,” Darling Range Fire station spokesperson Michael Dilallo said.
“(The man is) extremely lucky.
“The crews did very well locating the man in the manner of time that they did.”
The elderly man was found conscious but was struggling to breathe.
The walls around the man were scorched, but fire crews say the collapsed ceiling may have actually shielded the man from the heat.
An investigation into what caused the fire is now underway.
The elderly man was taken to St John of God Midland in a serious condition, suffering smoke inhalation.
