Thief foiled by four pharmacy girls battering him with a bin lid
Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a heroin-addicted thief was battered by four pharmacy girls with a bin lid, as he tried to steal cash from their till.
The footage shows the incredible bravery of the four female employees who noticed the man attempt to steal cash from behind the counter.
During the attempted robbery, the manager of the Boots pharmacy in Hull, England can be seen battering the robber with a plastic bin lid.
The thief then dropped the money and spilled the cash everywhere.
The staff detained the thief until the police arrived.
It later emerged the robber was a UK boxing coach called Michael Newton, who previously worked for a professional UK boxer called Tommy Coyle.
According to local media reports, Judge Mark Bury praised the manager and her team for their courage.
He said: “If those four ladies don’t get 'Employee of the Month' in Boots, it’s a poor do”.
In her victim statement, the manager said: “You don’t ever expect this kind of thing to happen, do you, and it’s shaken up the whole team.”
After being arrested and admitting to robbery, Michael Newton was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service, according to The Sun.
Newton was also ordered to complete 30 days of rehab for his heroin addiction.
