Masked men target Aldi supermarkets while armed with meat cleaver, machete

A female employee at a Melbourne supermarket had a knife held to her throat in one of three terrifying robberies on Monday night.

Police say two masked men barged into the Cheltenham Aldi, threatening staff with a meat cleaver and machete.

One of the men filled up a plastic shopping bag with cash as the other remained on the look out.

Just 20 minutes later, police believe the same two men were responsible for a hold up at another Aldi supermarket, in Oakleigh, as the store was about to close.

The masked men demanded cash, pushing a male employee in the chest and threatening him with a knife.

The men took cash and alcohol, smashing glass cabinets on their way out of the store.

The duo were wearing balaclavas at the time of the attacks, with one of the men wearing distinctive red gloves.

It is believed the men were driving a silver sedan as the getaway vehicle.

The men remain on the run with all staff members left shaken but physically “okay”.

Anyone with information on the robberies should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
