Two people have been taken to Westmead hospital after a bus and an excavator collided at Parramatta.

The bus was traveling down Macquarie Street near Smith Street in Parramatta around 7am.

"The bus clipped the excavator causing it to fall onto the bus," a police spokeswoman said. "A number of passengers sustained minor injuries."

A spokeswoman for the NSW Ambulance Service told Yahoo7 paramedics assessed five patients at the scene.

"One of the patients had a minor head injury and another presented with a knee injury," she said. "Two people were taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition."

Police said inquiries into the incident were continuing.
