Melbourne teen critical after alleged hit and run

A teenager is critical and a woman has been arrested following an alleged hit-run in south-east Melbourne.

A 17-year-old boy was standing on the side of Forest Drive, Mt Martha when he was allegedly struck by a four wheel drive at 1.20 Wednesday afternoon.

He has been airlifted to a Melbourne hospital in a critical condition.

The vehicle initially stopped at the scene but then allegedly drove off, police say.

Following incident, patrolling police found the 4WD a few streets away outside a local school, and arrested the 46-year-old Mt Martha driver.

MCIU detectives are investigating the cause of the incident.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
