Alleged drugged driver injures mum, young kids
A woman and her two young children were lucky to escape serious injury after their vehicle was hit head on by an alleged drugged driver on the Gold Coast.
Witnesses reported seeing a car speeding down Marine Parade with its hazard lights on before the vehicle jumped a median strip and crossed onto the wrong side of the Gold Coast Highway.
The woman was captured on video staggering out of the wreckage as passers by stopped to help.
She and her two children, aged four and eight, were later taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Local security guard Chris Harris was one of the first at the scene and helped detain the other driver until police arrived.
“I think he had organized a getaway car and he was trying to wave the person down,” he said.
The 30-year-old, from Surfers Paradise, has since been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving and unlicenced driving.
