'Cleaned up': Car crashes into popular laundromat on Gold Coast

Security cameras have captured a bizarre car crash at a popular laundromat on the Gold Coast.

A customer's washing had just finished its cycle when a driver accidentally went for a high-speed spin through the shop front.

The sedan can be seen on the CCTV footage careering through the front of the store located in Mermaid Waters, smashing violently through the entrance of the laundromat.

The unlucky driver’s foot was still on the accelerator as nearby shoppers and workers raced from neighbouring stores to inspect the damage caused during the crash.

The elderly female driver is a regular to the centre.

Luckily no one was inside the laudromat at the time of the crash and washing machines were the only casualties.

The owner Geoff Veal told 7 News, "I didn't know it was a car wash but I guess she must have thought so."

"She'd just left, she'd just been cleaning and she said i was walking away when I heard this really big bang,” store owner Annie Veal told 7 News.

The driver escaped without injury and was taken to hospital for observation.

A nearby witness told 7 News, "This was as far as the car made it. All of the machines at the back run on gas. The owners say if it they'd exploded.. it could have levelled the complex."

"Woah, lucky I wasn't in there."
