Wild Queensland car chase captured on chopper camera, police furious

Two Logan men have been caught on police cameras taking a stolen car on wild and dangerous ride in the middle of the night on busy Queensland roads.

With the police helicopter above filming the brazen behavior, the stolen car was tracked travelling at high speeds and rushing through red lights.

The vehicle can also be seen crossing over onto the wrong side of major roads on several occasions.

The drivers were later identified as two Logan men - aged 21 and 24 - who will now face court on a string of charges.

Over the course of several hours, the car allegedly continued to drive dangerously on major roads including the Logan Motorway at Meadowbrook and the Ipswich Motorway at Rocklea.

The car also allegedly drove through tunnels in an attempt to avoid detection by the police helicopter.

Police eventually had to use a tyre spike in an attempt stop the vehicle on the Centenary Highway at Yamanto, however the brazen occupants refused to surrender.

For around twenty minutes the pair continued to travel along yet another busy stretch of road.

The tyres on the vehicle were shredded and the Toyota was filmed travelling on its wheel rims, with sparks flying out from all sides.

Eventually, an officer maneuvered his patrol in front of them, cutting them off to bring the wild ride to an end.

Police have since charged the two men following the dangerous driving incident.

It will be alleged that a car stolen from Sunnybank Hills on February 26.

A furious Queensland Police spokesperson told 7 News: “The behaviour of the drivers involved in those incidents is extremely dangerous, they have placed Queensland road users at significant risk.”

“It is a significant waste of resources when people are just blatantly disobeying the law and that person has blatantly disregarded any level of safety.”

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

“Thank god that person was stopped by police before they hurt themselves or hurt another member of the public,” Queensland Police spokesperson told 7 News.

A 24-year-old Munruben man has been charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of failing to stop a motor vehicle and one count each of driving on a disqualified license, use of a vehicle with number plates belonging to another vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property.

He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

A 21-year-old Hillcrest man has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on May 12.
