Woman dragged 20 metres during violent street robbery at Gold Coast

Police are on a manhunt for a callous thief who left a 52-year-old woman battered and bruised after dragging her along a street while trying to steal her handbag in broad daylight.

Shocking security footage has emerged showing the moment the woman was violently dragged along a street in Carrara on the Gold Coast late yesterday afternoon.

The Victorian woman was standing next to her vehicle, which was parked in Eastlake Street, when a man approached her and informed her that she had a flat tyre.

When the 52-year-old woman bent down to inspect the tyre the thief grabbed her handbag and tried to run off.

The victim of the vicious attack defiantly held onto her purse and was dragged approximately 15 to 20 metres before she let go.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics for grazes, bruises and small lacerations to her back, arms, legs, feet and ankles.

The callous thief fled into an awaiting white vehicle, being driven by another man, and the pair fled the scene.

The woman lost cash, credit cards, mobile phone and personal items.

The victim had $7,000 in her handbag at the time of the attack.

The victim has recently visited the bank and police believe she was followed by the robber back to her vehicle.

The man is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 170cms tall and possibly aged in his early 20s.

He was wearing a grey hooded jumper.
