After complications with her disease, Mrs Kuroki unexpectedly lost her sight only one week after her diagnosis.

Struggling to deal with her blindness, she became depressed and limited herself to the confines of her home, according to Distractify.

As the story goes, Mr Kuroki made it his mission to see his wife's beautiful smile again.

He spent two years working in the garden of the couple's old dairy farm in Shintomi Town, Japan, to plant more than 7000 pink shibazakura, or moss phlox.

He chose the small pink flowers because of their lovely scent, as it reportedly reminded him that beauty isn't always found in appearance.
