Driver thrown from vehicle in heart-stopping police chase
A man was thrown into the air from his ute when he crashed during a dramatic high speed police chase in America.
Idaho police dashcam footage captured the heart-stopping moment Jose Manuel Sanchez, 33, tried to outsmart officers by speeding off-road on a dusty median between two major lanes of traffic.
The suspect then attempts to drive back onto the highway but, as he accelerates up the embankment, he loses control and rolls his vehicle.
As a cloud of dirt and dust forms, Sanchez can be seen flying from the wreckage along with a tyre reaching an estimated height of three to four meters.
Incredibly, Sanchez survived the crash and even mustered up the strength to keep running from police.
He stumbled alongside the road as a police officer approached with his gun drawn.
A passing motorist who stopped to help officers make the arrest was later awarded with a plaque of honour for his efforts.
Sanchez pleaded guilty to battery of an officer, fleeing police and possession of methamphetamine.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to the Idaho Statesman.
