Cocaine allegedly found inside boxes of chocolate at Sydney airport

A Malaysian man has appeared in court after he was allegedly stopped at Sydney airport with almost five kilograms of cocaine concealed in boxes of chocolate and alcohol.

The 27-year-old was arrested after officials from the Australian Border Force examined his bags on arrival from Dubai on Monday.

He was carrying a bottle of whiskey and four boxes of chocolate, which authorities allege contained 4.7kg of pellets that tested positive for cocaine.

The man appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday, charged with importing a commercial quantity of cocaine.

“More and more we are seeing people try to evade detection by concealing drugs in an interesting way,” ABF regional Commander NSW Tim Fitzgerald said.

“From food packets and toys, to books and tools, criminals can be very creative in their attempts to get these dangerous drugs into Australia.”
