Dramatic footage of Gold Coast man speeding recklessly

Caught on tape: Dramatic footage has been captured of a driver weaving through heavy traffic on the Gold Coast narrowly avoiding hitting oncoming traffic.

The man has since been charged with dangerous driving, driving while affected by drugs and possession of drugs after an incident in Southport yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged that around 3pm police were patrolling Scarborough Street when they saw a car driving erratically.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however the driver failed to stop and sped off.

Polair One was advised and tracked the vehicle relaying information to police on the ground.

It will be further alleged that the man continued to drive in a dangerous way, including ignoring red traffic signals and driving on the incorrect side of the road.

Around 3.25pm the vehicle stopped at a sports club on Musgrave Avenue, Southport and the male driver and sole occupant fled on foot.

Police located him soon after and he was arrested without incident.

The 20-year-old Molendinar man has since been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, and one count each of failing to stop a motor vehicle, possession dangerous drugs, unlawful use of motor vehicle, and driving without a driver’s licence.

He appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court today and is currently in custody.
