Father and son's extrodinary escape from crash

FIRST ON 7: A Queensland father could be facing serious charges after a horror crash at Hamilton on Wednesday, that ripped out the engine of his ute.

Andrew Buchanan was driving his 10-year-old son to school when he lost control of his XR6 and slammed into a pole.

The 40-year-old only travelled a distance of 150 metres from his work when the accident happened.

Police allege he was driving at dangerous speeds.

Witnesses said the impact of the cash tore his vehicle apart.

“How any of them got out in one piece, you just can't understand it,” Marlio Folino told 7 News.

“You could hear him giving it some stick and then once he's hit third gear you could hear it go straight into that pole,”

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked for almost an hour to free the pair – the terrifyied child had to be cut out of the car.

“He was just screaming for his dad ...he just wanted to get out of the car and we told him you've got to relax,” Mr Folino said.

The pair were rushed to hospital, where the little boy underwent surgery for a broken leg.

Investigations continue.
