Priceless war medals stolen from Queensland woman

FIRST ON 7: An 80-year-old woman is appealing for help to find a priceless war medal after it was stolen from her home in Queensland.

Maureen Kempe was on holidays with her husband when her father’s World War One medallion was stolen from their home at Murrumba Downs.

It was given to him after he returned from service in Gallipoli and is engraved with his name and a special message.

Ms Kempe says she desperately wants it back safely.

“I feel like something very personal has been taken..it was my last link to my dad,” she told 7 News.

There are only four medallions of its kind in the country.

The thieves also stole thousands of dollars’ worth of jewellery, including a charm bracelet engraved with the names of places she’d visited around the world.

Maureen had planned to give the medallion back to her father’s hometown of Yacka in South Australia.
