Why the flu jab could be good for your heart

Cardiac disease sufferers can take heart in new research that shows a Flu jab can reduce the risk of a heart attack by a third.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of New South Wales, examined 16 international case studies to find the link between the flu jab and halting heart attacks.

It found the flu injection reduces the risk of heart attack by 29 percent, which is on par with other preventative measures.

Quitting smoking also reduces people’s risk of heart disease by 26 percent, while anti-cholestrol drugs lowered it by 25 percent.

Researchers say the information is another weapon in the armoury for those battling a disease that kills one Australian every 12 minutes.
