Search intensifies for missing Millicent woman

Northern Territory police have deployed extra volunteers to assist in the search for a missing South Australian woman.

A helicopter search this morning failed to locate the 64-year-old from Millicent, South Australia, and police say they are worried about her safety.

“We are very concerned for her welfare, having been out since yesterday morning without provisions,” Superintendent Don Fry said.

The woman was camping with her husband at the Salt Creek rest area on Luritja Road in the Kings Canyon area when the pair became separated during a walk. She failed to return to the campsite last night.

“Overnight, police vehicles patrolled the area using lights and sirens in an effort to attract the woman’s attention,” Superintendent Fry said.

“She is described as being 5’11” tall, Caucasian, with a medium build, grey hair and blue eyes. She was wearing pink pants, a black and white check shirt, red jacket and a beanie. It is understood she did not have any water with her.”

More than 20 people are now searching and the woman’s husband has remained at the site and is assisting with the search.

The search area spans about 80-square-kilometres.

The ABC reports the pair separated after a disagreement about the best route back to the rest area camp site.
