Driver dies after single car crash on Tasmania's Bruny Island

A man from Taiwan has died after the car he was driving hit a tree on north Bruny Island in Tasmania.

Police were called to Main Road near Dennes Point on Monday afternoon and found the 27-year-old man and his female passenger, also from Taiwan, trapped in the car.

Officers said the driver appeared to have lost control on the gravel about 4:00pm.

The pair was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital, but the driver died.

The woman's condition is described as satisfactory.

Police have urged any witnesses to contact them.

The man's death takes Tasmania's road toll this year to nine.
