Motorcyclist dies, taking road toll to 26
A man has died in hospital after two motorcyclists crashed while trying to avoid each other in central Victoria.
The 35-year-old fell from his motorbike in Kyabram early on Thursday and was airlifted to hospital but died later on Friday.
The other motorcyclist also fell but received only minor injuries.
It's believed they were approaching from opposite directions and tried to avoid each other before coming off their bikes.
As of Friday evening, 26 people have died on Australian roads over the national road toll period.
A 33-year-old man died on WA's roads on Thursday night, becoming the state's first fatality in 2015.
The man died after losing control of his vehicle in Myalup.
Meanwhile, two men died in separate crashes on Queensland's roads late on Thursday.
One man died and five other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when two cars collided in Bundaberg about 8.50pm on Thursday.
And a man aged in his 60s was killed when his car overturned on the Pacific Motorway at Nerang on the Gold Coast.
Seven people have died on SA's roads, six people have died in NSW, four in Queensland, four in Victoria, three in WA, and two in Tasmania.
Both the Northern Territory and the ACT remain fatality free.
The national road toll period runs from 0001 December 23, 2014 until 2359 January 3, 2015, local times, in line with the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Board.
