Fire threatening western Sydney restaurant

A fire in Sydney's west is threatening restaurants after it spread into the roof of an office above a Middle Eastern eatery.

Firefighters have had to evacuate the two-storey building in Fairfield on Sunday night and use a cherrypicker to battle the blaze.

A number of restaurants and shops sit under or near the fire, which NSW Fire & Rescue were called to about 8.20pm at The Crescent.

It's believed the fire is burning in an office above Aldhiaffah Al-Iraqi Restaurant and next to Xiao's Noodle Bar.

More than 30 firefighters are at the scene.

NSW Fire & Rescue Superintendent Tom Cooper says firefighters have had to be pulled out after the fire spread to the roof of the property.

"They are doing a defensive attack from a cherry picker," he said.

"They believe it started in the offices above the restaurant."

No people are inside.

Firefighters don't know if the blaze is suspicious.
