Alleged inmate killer facing other charges

A man who allegedly murdered a fellow prison inmate almost 20 years ago is already in custody and facing another similar charge, a court has heard.

Terry James Freeman, 41, was charged earlier this month with killing Jason Lee Evans on February 1, 1995.

Evans, 21, was found dead in his cell at the Sir David Longlands Correctional Centre, now the Brisbane Correctional Centre, in Wacol.

The charge was mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, however Freeman did not appear.

During the brief hearing lawyers told the court he was already in custody for "another matter of a similar nature".

Details of this other matter were not revealed in court.

Both matters will now be mentioned in court together on November 3.
