A teenage girl has been stabbed multiple times in a fight with another teenager in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW.

The 17-year-old was stabbed with a pocket knife in the chest, stomach, arms and hands by an 18-year-old woman on Tuesday night, police allege.

The fight broke out while the girls were with a group of friends in bushland near Flaggy Creek Reserve in Kahibah.

The girl is in a stable condition while the alleged attacker has been charged with reckless wounding.

She has been released on bail to appear in Belmont Local Court on Wednesday.
