Sydney toddler in backyard pool drowning

A toddler has died after being pulled unconscious from his backyard pool in Sydney's northwest.

The two-year-old boy was found floating in the pool of his Stanhope Gardens home on Saturday morning.

Neighbours frantically performed CPR on the toddler before CareFlight's trauma team arrived.

Paramedics took the boy to The Children's Hospital at Westmead by road ambulance, but he died a short time later.

"As we go into summer it's an early reminder about the need for constant vigilance whenever young children and toddlers are near swimming pools, however secure they might seem," CareFlight spokesman Mark Lever said.
