Father charged over son's serious injuries

A Sydney man has been charged after his son was left fighting for his life in hospital with critical injuries.

The two-year-old boy was taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead last Wednesday night with significant head and body injuries.

The boy, still in a critical but stable condition in hospital, had been living with his parents and brother at North Rocks in Sydney's northwest.

Child Abuse Squad detectives arrested the boy's 39-year-old father and 24-year-old mother on Friday.

The father was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday this week.

The mother was released without charge.
