Elaborate cannabis home raided in Sydney

More than $1 million worth of cannabis has been seized by police in Sydney's south after they raided a home found to be equipped with an elaborate hydroponic set-up.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, have been arrested for cultivating 384 cannabis plants in the Hurstville home.

The well-kept Salisbury Avenue home had been rewired to siphon electricity from the grid to power the operation while keeping it concealed, Macquarie Radio reported.

The men were taken into custody on Thursday night after police searched the home to find plants thriving under hydroponic lights.

The dangerous set-up had to be dismantled before Strike Force Grassy could move in on Friday to bag up the plants.

Both men have been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and other related offences.

They have been refused bail and will appear at Sutherland Local Court on Friday.
