No Australians on crashed Taiwan flight

No Australians appear to have been on board a passenger plane which crashed in Taiwan, killing at least 42 people.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says initial advice indicates no Australians were involved in the TransAsia Airways flight GE222 crash.

The domestic plane was carrying 58 people, including two French nationals, when it crashed into houses near Magong airport, AFP reports.

At least 42 people were killed and another 11 were taken to hospital.

"We have found 42 bodies and some body parts so far," an official from the Penghu county fire department told AFP.

The flight had been delayed earlier by bad weather as Typhoon Matmo pounded the country.

The pilot was reportedly attempting to land the plane when it crashed.

The crash comes after 39 Australian citizens and residents were among the 298 people killed when flight MH17 exploded over eastern Ukraine on July 17.
