Nominate champions in the community.

Western Sydney residents are being urged to nominate champions in their community.

With some valuable cash grants up for grabs - nominations are already flooding in - as part our Fair Go For the West campaign.

A small army of champions live and work in Sydney's western suburbs.

People like Kevin Robinson, who founded the Little Wings 'flying taxi' charity, help fly young cancer patients and their families between regional NSW and Westmead Childrens' Hospital.

"It's right across NSW and the last 10 months we helped 358 people,” said Robinson. “In the next 12 months we're hoping to help about 600."

He's one of the first nominees for a Champions of the West grant, part of the Fair Go for The West campaign with the telegraph newspaper.

Another nominee is fashion designer and entrepreneur Aida Zein.

Her stores in Bankstown and Punchbowl specialise in 'modest' Islamic fashion.

"I'm speechless,” said Zein. “I'm so so grateful, I really am so so grateful."

Champions of the West grants will be handed out in twelve categories, including, sports, health and young achievers.

They're for any project that benefits the community and winners get ten thousand dollars each.
