Vigil to honour slain St Kilda sex worker

A candlelit vigil and memorial service will be held next week to 'celebrate the life' of slain St Kilda sex worker Tracy Connelly.

The 40-year-old, who went by the name of Kelly, was violently killed on Greeves Street on Sunday, July 21.

She was found dead by her boyfriend in the van she had been living in and police are investigating whether she may have been murdered by a client.

She died on the same street as St Kilda Gatehouse, a non-profit support group that had been helping her for months.

The first picture of Ms Connolly was released by the organisation today, as it announced a planned candlelit vigil to 'honour her life'.

CEO Sally Tonkin said: "We want to spread the message that violence towards anyone, especially women, has no place in our community.

"I'd like to invite and encourage all Melburnians to come together and help us reclaim Greeves Street as a place of strength and hope."

Police are investigating whether Ms Connolly may have been murdered by a client, and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The service will take place on Thursday, August 8 from 6pm in Greeves Street.

Speakers include White Ribbon ambassador Phil Cleary, Mayor of Port Phillip, Councillor Amanda Stevens and Shadow Minister for Crime Prevention Jill Hennessy MP.

"St Kilda choir the Solstice singers and musicians Richard Boer and Josh Fuhrmeister will also honour Tracy's memory with a musical accompaniment to the evening.

"St Kilda Gatehouse welcomes the wider public to join them in celebrating Tracy's life and remembering that she was someone - a partner, a daughter, a sister and a dear friend."
