Judith Durham celebrates 70th birthday

Australian music legend, Seekers' frontwoman Judith Durham, is busting to return to the stage as she celebrates her 70th birthday in a Melbourne hospital.

Ms Durham suffered a brain haemorrhage during The Seekers Golden Jubilee tour in May and has spent the past six weeks in intensive rehabilitation at Melbourne's Epworth hospital.

She said her ability to read and write has been affected, but the haemorrhage has not damaged her voice.

She says doctors put her voice to the test early in her rehabilitation, but she will have to learn to read music and play the keyboard again.

"Everybody around me was sort of skirting that question: can she sing?

"Luckily that was all in tact and I still sing in tune and I'm expecting to be back on stage to sing again as soon as all the therapy is done.

"I'm expecting to have a very good recovery and I'm hoping it won't be too long."

Today, she celebrated her 70th birthday with members of the group, including Athol Guy and Keith Potger

Keith Potger said: "We don't want to hurry anything and we just want this dear girl to recuperate in her own sweet time. We'll be waiting in the wings...she'll be back."

The Seekers' big hits include Georgy Girl, I'll Never Find Another You, and Georgy Girl.
