Cancer Victim 'not giving up'

A Melbourne woman diagnosed with terminal cancer is about to put her successful business on the market in a desperate race to save her life.

Lyndal Pankhurst underwent a mastectomy three weeks ago followed by a routine scan in which doctors found the cancer had spread to her bones.

Doctors delivered a grim prognosis, giving Lyndal a life expectancy of just five years.

"It was pretty devastating," she told 7News reporter Anastasia Salamastrakis. "I was scared and I went into a mini depression, and then pretty much spent a week on the couch."

But Lyndal, the owner of a successful pizza shop in Richmond for seven years, refuses to give up, instead she is selling up.

The shop is going on the market, and the proceeds from the sale will pay for treatment, including a trip to a German clinic which specialises in alternative medicine.

Lyndal says her shock diagnosis has forced her to reassess her life and focus on what is important - staying alive to pursue her dreams.

Supporting her through the battle is Brett Madigan, a Melbourne father-of-two, who has set up Janelle's Miracle Foundation to help people diagnosed with terminal cancer in memory of his wife, Janelle, who died last year.

"I want to be well again," Lyndal said. "I don't want to live with this."
