Free e-waste dumping depots in Adelaide

The nearing digital signal switch-over has prompted the Government to offer free e-waste collection points around Adelaide.

With April 2 D-Day for the analogue signal to be switched off, suburban roadsides have been turning into dumping grounds for bulky old television sets.

Local councils are warning anyone who flouts the law and dumps old TVs on the roadside could face hefty fines.

“It creates ugly pollution in our neighbourhoods, dangerous as well for kids playing around the place,” said local MP Steve Georganas.

Anyone caught dumping an old TV set could be fined up to $300.

But those who still have an old TV can still extend their usable life with the purchase a set-top box for as little as $30.

And if they choose to replace their old set, they can for as little as $300 – but they can also expect a fee of up to $25 to dump their old one at the depot.

This weekend, e-waste depots at North Adelaide, Burnside, North Plympton and Wingfield will be accepting your unwanted electronic items at no cost.
