The parents of a 23-year-old man murdered near Keith have spoken of their grief and anger.
While the identity of the man is yet to be confirmed, police believe it belongs to Navarone Hutchins, who went missing from his Keith home last Friday.
Mr Hutchins was a quiet young man who worked as a courier and was planning to move to Melbourne.
His mother had this message for her son’s killer.
“He can go to hell,” she said.
“I will never ever forgive that bastard, whoever they are, because I’m the mother here.”
On Friday night, his father Graham has dropped him off at a friend’s house.
That friend told police the victim had left alone between 10pm and 10.30pm to go to the pub, but he never made it there.
“We thought he would turn up on Sunday, we were really worried,” the victim’s father said.
Mr Hutchin’s body was found near a dirt track on the outskirts of the South-East township of Keith yesterday.
While it is six kilometers from town, the area where the body was found is known to be a hang-out for local young people who drink there.
A nearby property owner heard noises at around 10.30pm on Friday night.
Detective Inspector Mark Trenwith from Major Crime said he could not comment on the cause of death until a post-mortem examination was carried out.
“…I can say that it is a particularly violent murder and is of great concern to us,” he said.
“We are pleading for anyone who may have information with regards to this brutal murder to contact police via Crime Stoppers.
“Investigators believe someone in Keith will know what has happened.
“We don’t know any reason why anyone would want to kill Mr Hutchins.
“Our crime scene forensic experts are still piecing together exactly what has happened here at the scene and also through the examination of the body at the post mortem.”
Det Insp Trenwith said Mr Hutchins did not have a criminal history and was not known to police.
“His family are obviously distraught by what has happened to him and we are doing our utmost to clarify what has happened and bring the offenders to justice,” he said.
Detectives and uniformed police doorknocked the area and are reviewing CCTV footage from local businesses.
