Screeners threaten strike at Adelaide Airport

Security screeners at Adelaide Airport threaten strike action.

Passengers at Adelaide Airport could be facing disruptions from next week if security screeners follow through on their threat to strike.

The workers want a 15 per cent pay rise, and then a four per cent annual increase after that.

They met at Adelaide Airport today, demanding the same pay for those in the same position in other states.

Ray Wyatt from the Transport Workers’ Union said meeting these demands would only bring local workers onto the same level as their interstate counterparts.

“These people have actually slipped behind the award,” he said.

“While everybody else is at home with their families, aviation workers are out there making sure the travelling public are flying safe.”

The union says it also has concerns with safety, rostering and overtime, and if contracts are not back on the negotiating table by next week, 120 workers will go on strike for 48 hours.
