Australian Olympic rower Josh Booth has been detained by London police.

The Melbourne-based athlete was detained by officers last night for damage to a shop front, and taken to a police station.

Booth fainted while he was there and hit his head.

He was released without charge and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Booth is back in the rowing village, but must return to police tomorrow as officers decide whether to investigate the matter further.

It's believed alcohol was involved.
