Injured bikie, Vincenzo Focarelli, has left the Royal Adelaide Hospital under secure guard, but has been denied compassionate leave by the Department of Corrections to attend his son's funeral today.
The Department said in a written statement it refused Focarelli's request because of the risk attending the funeral would pose to his safety and to Corrections staff.
He was moved from the Royal Adelaide Hospital by a secure escort and taken into custody to prison this morning.
Applying to the Department of Corrections for compassionate leave was the last avenue available to Focarelli, so he could attend his son's funeral.
It is believed the funeral will be held today at the Al Khalil mosque at Woodville North, in Adelaide's western suburbs after midday.
A huge police contingent is in the area, to monitor the crowd of about 600 mourners gathering to farewell Giovanni Focarelli.
Bail denied by courts
On Thursday, Focarelli was refused bail by the courts for the second time.
Police charged him with drug trafficking and breaching bail offences, days after he was hospitalised from a shooting at Dry Creek, that claimed the life of his son, Giovanni.
Focarelli was taken to hospital with four gunshot wounds, including one to his head, but Giovanni, 22, died at the scene.
Focarelli desperately applied to the Supreme Court to be released for a few hours to bury his son.
But Justice Vanstone denied his application out of concern for public safety.
"The killing of Mr Focarelli's son in apparently shocking circumstances shows there is a real danger of Mr Focarelli attracting further violence," she told the court.Reporter 'off air for being too old at 40' Today Tonight
