An Adelaide taxi driver has been fined and ordered to pay court costs, after a Magistrate found him guilty of wearing jeans to work.

Transport Safety Compliance officers caught Shahram Foronzandeh, 43, wearing jeans at a taxi rank on January 20.

Under the Passenger Transport Act, he was issued a $105 on the spot fine.

But he chose to fight the fine in court.

Today, Magistrate Alfio Grasso heard from Mr Foronzandeh that he wasn't wearing denim jeans to work, but woollen trousers.

Mr Foronzandeh said they were tailor-made and had a pocket stud which made them look similar to jeans.

However, he said that he had recently moved house, and the box that they were packed in was stolen, so he could not bring them to court to prove it.

But Magistrate Grasso said he didn't believe the story, and ordered Mr Forozondeh to pay the original fine, as well as a levy of $160, and court costs of $1,150.

Outside of court, Mr Foronzandeh maintained his innocence, despite a photograph of the pants in question being presented in court.

"It was all set up... It doesn't mean it belongs to me, they could've taken it (the photograph) with the plate number on it," he said.

He says he always dresses appropriately when working.
