Dead fish wash up on SA beaches

Thousands of dead fish have washed up on Adelaide’s southern beaches.

Experts believe the recent hot spell has caused a massive kill-off in Gulf St Vincent.

Leather jackets litter the shoreline, with locals observing dead fish all along the southern coasts, from Christies Beach to Maslin Beach.

Experts believe the recent hot patch it to blame.

“Any sort of sudden rise in temperature really affects these small bodied fish,” Alex Chalupa from Biosecurity SA told 7News.

Earlier this month, similar sightings were reported on beaches on the Eyre Peninsula.

Experts believe it is largely the same fish which have blown across the gulf from the far west coast.
