Woman dies after being found unconscious on party boat


A woman has died on board a boat in Sydney Harbour.

Emergency services were called to a marina on Roberts Street at Balmain, in Sydney’s inner-west, after reports a woman believed to be in her late 30s was found unconscious in the toilet on a boat on Saturday about 4.10pm.

Paramedics were told about fumes on the boat and the woman went into cardiac arrest.

A police spokeswoman said passengers on the boat reported a “strange smell”.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics on the back deck of but could not be revived.

It’s believed those on board were celebrating a birthday party.

A crime scene has been established on the boat as a report is prepared for the coroner.

A hazmat team was also called to investigate.

When asked if drugs or alcohol could have been a factor in her death the spokesman said, “not as far as we’re aware”.

He added the fire department didn’t detect any dangerous fumes on board.

The police spokeswoman said it’s too early to tell whether the incident was suspicious or not, and police were looking at the situation from all angles.

A second person was hospitalised with shock.
