Boy fighting for life after being hit by car outside Sydney school

An eight-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after he and his dad were injured when an out-of-control car struck them as they used a pedestrian crossing outside the boy’s school.

The Audi SUV hit the pair on Yeo Street in Neutral Bay, in Sydney’s north, on Wednesday shortly before 9am, according to NSW Police.

The driver of the vehicle was believed to have suffered a medical episode behind the wheel, Nine News reported, with him only coming to a stop after crashing into four parked cars.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the boy was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, while his dad, 40, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police said the driver, a 53-year-old man, was also taken to Royal North Shore where he was treated for shock and to undergo mandatory testing.

Another eight-year-old boy was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick as a precaution.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command established a crime scene with police from the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to come forward.
