Two killed in plane crash near Port Macquarie

An aircraft has fatally crashed near the town of Port Macquarie on the NSW coast.

Two people on board the Cesna 182 were killed during the crash alongside the Pacific Highway in Johns River, 40 kilometres south of Port Macquarie.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the crash site while emergency services remain at the scene with several firetrucks lining the highway.

The plane was reportedly travelling from Toowoomba to Taree.
