'Child porn ring' led to murder of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsay, Boulder locals claim

Wild theories a "child porn ring" contributed to the death of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsay 20 years ago have been revealed in a Netflix documentary.

Unconfirmed and horrific speculations were shared on camera by locals of the Ramseys' home town in Boulder, Colorado, during the audition process for the cold case film, The Sun reported.

On Boxing day, police received a chilling call from Patsy Ramsey who said her daughter had disappeared and a threatening ransom note had been left at the home.

Authorities arrived and within a few hours later they found the six-year-old girl's beaten and strangled body in the basement of the home.

JonBenet had unidentified DNA in her underwear and the family have blamed an intruder for her murder.

Trying out for the roles of the slain child's parents John and Patsy, and the leading police officer investigating the case, residents revealed the wild rumours floating through the area following the unsolved murder.

One local said: “There was a lot of talk that there was a child porn ring going on in Boulder."

Another added: "This is Boulder, that is what you have to deal with, but I thought there was some sort of sexual escapade that got out of hand".

“It’s always somebody you know, nine times out of 10 it’s always somebody you know,” another said.

The documentary explores the effect the murder mystery had on the small town of Boulder, and recreates key moments of the cold case.

It also presents an opportunity for locals to share their theories and speculations of what they think happened to the child beauty queen and why she was was killed.

The allegations come after a handwriting expert claimed the ransom note found at the Ramsey home was likely written by JonBenet’s mother.

Mrs Ramsey, who died of cancer in 2006, strongly denied having any involvement in her daughter’s death.

Other theories have been rife including later dismissed claims John and Patsy covered up the murder to protect their son Burke, who was nine at the time.

Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett announced last December DNA evidence would be retested in the investigation of the unsolved 1996 slaying, and more clues could be uncovered.

Casting JonBenet will be released on Netflix on Friday.
