It will not be a merry Christmas for an escaped prisoner who fled a prison van in New South Wales in November.

John Robert Bamblett man who escaped from custody in November will spend Christmas behind bars after being recaptured.

The 35-year-old man had been on the run since escaping from a transport van on the Newell Highway, north of West Wyalong, on November 5.

The escapee tried to flee from police when he was spotted on a Dubbo street on Thursday, but he was caught soon after and charged.
