Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson released from prison after five months
Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been freed from prison after serving five months behind bars.
Coulson was sentenced to 18 months in prison in July for conspiracy to intercept voicemails.
As a condition of his early release, he will reportedly have to wear an electronic tag under a home detention arrangement until he has served half of his full sentence.
The 46-year-old previously worked as the director of communications for UK prime minister David Cameron.
Coulson could face further legal action, after Scottish prosecutors announced he would be subject to a series of perjury charges over the trial of former Scottish Socialist Party leader Tommy Sheridan, at which he is alleged to have lied while giving evidence in December 2010, according to The Telegraph.
Four other journalists were sentenced over the hacking incident, another five were acquitted.
News International closed down the tabloid in 2011.
