Quokka wins US hearts

Maybe it's time to change the name of Rottnest Island to Quokka Isle.

Three photographs of quokkas - including one of a sleeping quokka and another where a quokka appears to be smiling - have gone viral and prompted websites around the world to declare WA's unique marsupial as "the world's happiest".

The Rottnest Island Authority is still reporting 100 tweets a day on the Rotto marsupials, including:

"Omg. Love the Quokka. Big time."

Now, it seems, the happy quokka has come to the attention of US television executives. The makers of the popular American real estate reality program House Hunters International are coming to Perth at the weekend - and Rottnest, in particular - to film a new episode.

The program, watched by more than 10 million viewers in the US and repeated regularly, finds homes for people looking to migrate. In the "Rottnest" episode, a South African couple will be looking for a new life in Perth.

Hopefully, they've been told you can't buy a house on Rottnest.
