McDonald's not lovin' Twitter hoax

It may be a complete fabrication, but this image is causing all sorts of grief for McDonald's.

The image, which shows a mocked up notice telling African-American customers they had to pay an extra $1.50 as insurance to a recent spate of robberies, was being passed around with the words "Seriously McDonalds" on social networking site Twitter.

The image has since been removed from Twitter, but not before McDonald's was forced to respond to the hoax.

Posting on their own Twitter account, McDonald's said: "That pic is a senseless & ignorant hoax McD's values ALL our customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture on both sides of the counter."

A spokesperson from the fast food giant also said "It's a completely senseless, ignorant hoax by some pranksters".

They also said they had "no idea" who had circulated the fake picture.

However, despite the denials by McDonald's, the hoax continued to garner popularity, becoming a trending topic on Twitter over the weekend.
