Beer bottle hero stops robbery
A customer who struck an armed man on the head with two beer bottles foiled a robbery at a truck stop off in the United States.
CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment the man whacked the robber over the head at a store in Virginia at the weekend.
The would-be robber brandished a gun at the clerk and demanded money before pointing the weapon at several store customers.
One good Samaritan walked to the rear of the store to get two beer bottles and struck the suspect in the back of the head.
The customer struggled with the gunman, who in turn shot him several times.
His injuries are not life-threatening and shop customers have labelled him a hero.
The clerk, who did not want to be identified, said she is grateful to the customer who saved her life.
"If it wasn't for him I'd be dead," she said.
"That guy would have shot me."
Police are yet to make an arrest over the robbery.
